Sydney Interior Painters Who Get the Details Right, Every Time
From cornices to skirting boards, Brushworks delivers interior painting results that elevate Sydney apartments, homes, and commercial spaces. Precise lines, premium products, and a finish that photographs as well as it lives.
Interior Finishes That Reflect the Quality of Your Space
Interior painting is where the difference between a competent painter and an exceptional one becomes immediately visible. The straightness of a cut line at a cornice, the consistency of sheen across a large feature wall, the absence of roller stipple on a ceiling, these details define the quality of the result and the longevity of the finish.
Brushworks has built its Sydney reputation entirely on interior work of this standard. We work across apartments, terraces, penthouses, and commercial interiors throughout Potts Point, Woolloomooloo, Darlinghurst, Surry Hills, and the wider inner city. Every job is managed and completed by our own painters, the same team from start to finish.

Every Interior Painting Service Sydney Needs
We cover the full scope of interior painting work, from single rooms to full building interiors, with the same attention to detail on every surface.
Walls and Ceilings
The backbone of every interior repaint. We prepare, prime, and apply Dulux premium low-sheen or flat systems with consistent roller technique and sharp cut lines throughout.
Doors, Trims and Architraves
Semi-gloss door and trim painting done with brush technique, not spray, for clean, controlled results that don’t overspray onto walls or flooring.
Feature Walls and Statements
Bold colour statements, limewash effects, or contrasting accent ceilings. We execute statement interior designs cleanly, including geometric tape lines and two-tone schemes.
Cornice and Heritage Plasterwork
Detailed brush painting of ornate cornices, picture rails, ceiling roses, and heritage plaster profiles, surfaces that demand a slower, more precise approach.
Kitchen and Bathroom Painting
Moisture-resistant primers and low-sheen washable finishes for wet areas, applied after proper ventilation and substrate assessment to prevent adhesion failure.
Commercial Interiors
Office fitouts, retail spaces, stairwells, and common areas, all executed with appropriate scheduling to minimise impact on occupants and business operations.
Interior Painting Challenges, and Our Approach
Problem: Roller marks and stipple visible on finished walls
Fast, inexperienced painters use the wrong roller nap for the surface and apply too quickly, leaving a stippled, textured result that’s visible in raking light.
Solution: Correct nap selection and wet-edge technique
We match roller nap to surface texture, maintain wet edges throughout, and back-roll where required. The result is a smooth, consistent film with no tell-tale stipple or lap marks.
Problem: Paint smell persisting for days after completion
Solvent-based paints and poorly ventilated work areas leave strong odours that can make a property unliveable for days, particularly in apartments with limited airflow.
Solution: Low-VOC water-based systems and ventilation protocols
We use Dulux low-VOC and zero-VOC interior products as standard, and follow ventilation protocols during and after application. Most apartments are liveable within hours of completion.
Problem: Cut lines that are wavy or show bleed-through at edges
Sloppy masking and poor brush control produce wavy cut lines between wall and ceiling colours, or bleed-through that’s visible on close inspection.
Solution: Precision masking and freehand cutting technique
Our painters are trained in both precision masking tape technique and freehand cutting, choosing the right method for each surface type to produce clean, sharp transitions throughout.
Problem: Paint not matching across touch-ups months later
When touch-up paint is applied over aged wall paint, colour and sheen differences become obvious, leaving an interior looking patchy and uneven.
Solution: Colour records and full-coat touch-up strategy
We record every paint specification used on your interior and advise on proper touch-up technique. Where patch painting won’t match, we recommend and complete full wall sections to maintain uniformity.
Our Interior Painting Process, Step by Step
A clear, predictable process that protects your home and delivers the interior finish you expect.
Site Inspection and Quote
We assess every room, note surface conditions, and provide a fully itemised quote covering every element of the work.
Furniture Protection
Furniture is moved and fully covered. Floors and fixed fittings are protected with drop sheets and masking before a brush touches a wall.
Preparation
Cracks filled, surfaces sanded, stains sealed, and primer applied where needed. Masking is applied for precise cut lines.
Application
Ceiling first, then walls, then trims and doors. Two coats minimum on all surfaces, three where specified or required by the substrate condition.
Final Inspection
We walk through every room, address any touch-up items, remove all protection, and hand over a clean, finished interior with your warranty documentation.

What Sydney Clients Say About Our Interior Work
“The interior of our Woolloomooloo apartment looks brand new. The cut lines at the cornices are razor sharp and the ceiling is perfectly smooth, no roller marks at all. These guys clearly know what they’re doing. We’ll use no one else.”
“Brushworks painted our Darlinghurst terrace interior, a complicated job with high ceilings, original cornices, and difficult access. They handled everything perfectly, kept the place tidy throughout, and the heritage plasterwork detail is exceptional.”
“We specifically asked for low-VOC products as we have young children. Brushworks used Dulux Wash & Wear throughout and the whole apartment was liveable the same afternoon. Immaculate finish, professional crew, exactly on schedule.”

Interior Painting FAQs
How many coats of paint does an interior wall need?
Two coats of finish coat is standard for most interior repaints over a sound, existing painted surface. Going from a dark to light colour, painting over stained surfaces, or painting new plaster all require primer plus two finish coats, sometimes three. We specify this in your quote based on our inspection, so there are no surprises. Get a quote to find out what your specific walls need.
What sheen level should I choose for interior walls?
Low-sheen (sometimes called eggshell or satin) is the most popular choice for living areas and bedrooms, it’s washable and hides minor imperfections. Flat/matte works well on ceilings. Semi-gloss is the standard choice for doors, trims, and kitchens. Our painters advise on the right sheen for each room during the quoting process.
Can you paint just one room rather than the whole apartment?
Absolutely. We take on single-room painting jobs across Sydney. Bear in mind that paint colours age and the new room may not match adjacent rooms perfectly, we’ll be upfront about this during the quote visit so you can make an informed decision.
Do you offer after-hours or weekend interior painting?
Yes. We schedule evening and weekend work regularly for clients who can’t vacate during business hours, or for commercial interiors where day-time access would disrupt operations. After-hours scheduling is discussed and confirmed during the quoting process, contact us to arrange.
How do you protect furniture and floors during an interior job?
We use heavy-duty canvas drop sheets on all floor surfaces, plastic sheeting over furniture that can’t be moved, and masking film on fittings and fixtures. Timber floors get additional protection. We remove all protection at completion and clean up any drips or marks before leaving the site.
