Sydney Exterior Painters, Built for Coastal Conditions and Complex Access
Brushworks delivers exterior painting that protects and presents Sydney buildings against UV, salt air, and the Sydney climate. From weatherboard cottages to multi-storey strata blocks, we handle access, compliance, and premium finishes as standard.
Exterior Painting That Protects as Much as It Presents
Sydney’s coastal climate is one of the most demanding environments for exterior coatings in Australia. Salt-laden air, intense UV radiation, and cyclical wetting and drying cycles all degrade exterior paint systems faster than inland environments. Getting the product selection and application right is not optional, it determines whether a repaint lasts 3 years or 10.
Brushworks works exclusively with Dulux Weathershield and comparable premium exterior systems selected and applied correctly for each substrate, render, brick, weatherboard, fibre cement, and timber. We manage access safely using scaffolding, elevated work platforms, and rope access as required, with full WHS compliance on every site.

- Scaffolding, EWP, and rope access, all managed by Brushworks

Complete Exterior Painting Services for Sydney Buildings
Every type of exterior surface and every type of access challenge, handled by a single accountable team from quote through to warranty.
Render and Masonry Exteriors
Cracked render repaired, sealed, and painted with elastomeric or standard acrylic systems. We address the cause of cracking before applying any finish coat.
Weatherboard and Timber
Sanded, primed, and painted with oil or water-based systems selected to the timber species and condition. We replace or repair rotten sections before painting.
Multi-Storey and Strata Exteriors
Full building repaints for apartment blocks and strata schemes. We manage access, public safety, resident notification, and all compliance documentation.
Dulux Weathershield Systems
As Dulux Accredited applicators, we specify and apply Weathershield exterior systems for maximum UV and moisture resistance, essential in Sydney’s coastal climate.
Eaves, Fascias, and Gutters
Eaves painted to match or contrast with wall colours. Fascias and timber gutters painted with appropriate oil-based systems for durability in exposed positions.
High-Pressure Washing and Prep
Industrial high-pressure washing removes mould, algae, loose paint, and surface contamination before any coating is applied, the step most painters skip.
Common Exterior Painting Failures, and How We Prevent Them
Problem: Paint bubbling and peeling within 12 months
Exterior paint failure is almost always a preparation failure. Paint applied over damp substrate, inadequately cleaned surfaces, or without the correct primer system will fail quickly regardless of product quality.
Solution: Mandatory dryness checks and substrate testing
We test substrate moisture before any primer is applied, ensure surfaces are fully washed and dry, and use appropriate primers for every substrate type. No paint goes on wet or inadequately prepared surfaces.
Problem: Render cracks reappearing through the new paint
Painting directly over moving cracks locks the paint film across an active joint, the paint tears as the substrate moves, and cracks reappear within months of completion.
Solution: Flexible sealants and elastomeric bridging systems
We rake out active cracks, fill with flexible polyurethane sealant, and where appropriate apply elastomeric bridging primer systems that can accommodate ongoing minor movement without splitting.
Problem: Mould and algae returning within a year
Standard exterior paints applied in shaded, damp-prone areas don’t contain adequate biocides, mould returns quickly and damages the paint film below it.
Solution: Anti-fungal treatments and mould-inhibiting paint systems
We pre-treat affected areas with appropriate fungicidal wash, and specify Dulux products with mould-inhibiting additives for shade-affected and moisture-prone exterior walls.
Problem: Access cost blowouts on multi-storey buildings
Inexperienced contractors underestimate access requirements and return to the client mid-project with additional charges for scaffolding, rope access, or EWP hire not included in the original quote.
Solution: All access assessed and priced in the original quote
We inspect every elevation of the building before quoting and include all access, scaffold, EWP, or rope access, in the original itemised price. No access surprises mid-project.

What Clients Say About Our Exterior Work
“Brushworks repainted the entire exterior of our Pyrmont apartment block, 6 storeys. The scaffolding was up and down without any issues and the crew were professional throughout. The building looks brand new and we’ve had zero issues in the 18 months since.”
“We had render cracking issues that two previous painters just painted over. Brushworks actually fixed the underlying problem, flexible sealant in the cracks, elastomeric primer, and the finish has held perfectly for two years now. Wish we’d found them sooner.”
“Our Millers Point heritage terrace exterior was in poor condition. Brushworks assessed it properly, recommended the right Dulux system for the sandstone and render, and the result is outstanding. They also liaised with our heritage consultant directly, very professional.”

Exterior Painting FAQs, Sydney Properties
How long should an exterior repaint last in Sydney’s climate?
With correct preparation and premium coating systems, an exterior repaint on a Sydney property should last 8–12 years before requiring full repaint. Coastal-facing surfaces in direct salt air may require attention sooner. Annual inspection and minor touch-ups extend the life of the overall system significantly. Contact us for a condition assessment.
Do you handle access and scaffolding or do we need to arrange that separately?
We manage all access requirements as part of our service, scaffolding, elevated work platforms, and rope access are all assessed and quoted as part of the original proposal. You deal with one company, not multiple trades. All access meets NSW WHS requirements.
What’s the best exterior paint for Sydney’s coastal suburbs?
Dulux Weathershield is our primary recommendation for Sydney coastal environments. It’s formulated with UV inhibitors and mould-resistant additives that outperform standard exterior acrylics in salt-laden coastal air. For exposed positions, we may specify additional treatments as part of the system.
Can you paint during winter or do we need to wait for warmer weather?
Sydney winters are mild enough to exterior paint year-round. We schedule around weather forecasts, avoid application in rain or below the minimum temperature specified by the paint manufacturer, and use products appropriate to ambient conditions. We maintain our schedule throughout winter.
Our strata building needs exterior painting, who do we contact?
Contact us directly via our contact page or call 0489 906 835. We provide strata committee quotations, attend meetings if required, manage the full project scope, and provide all compliance documentation for strata records. We also work directly with strata managers on behalf of the owners corporation.
